Clementi MRT station lies along Clementi North and Central boundary lines. The above-underground station plies along the East-West Line. Its physical location is right next to Clementi Mall, in CommonWealth Avenue West.
This MRT station’s name is derived from Clementi Road. The history of this name, however, dates back to 1880s. It belongs to the former governor of Straits Settlements, Sir Cecil Clementi. Its construction started in 1985 and completed in December 1987. However, it was first opened in March 1988.

Note that the track from Clementi Station up to the Jurong East MRT Station is considered to be the 2nd largest along the East-West Line. The connection between the Bus Interchange and the Mall is what forms the Integrated Transport Hub in Clementi. Note that there are plans to enhance this station so that it can link with the Cross Island Line in future.
